As an Irish pureblood wizard that comes from a long line of Ravenclaws, it was something of a shock for Matt to find himself sorted into Hufflepuff when he first arrived at Hogwarts. Despite often being the butt of well meaning teasing at family gatherings and the like he’s actually rather proud to call himself a Hufflepuff these days, seeing the qualities associated with the house as nothing to be ashamed of in the slightest even if he isn’t as academically minded as his parents and siblings.

Matthew is nothing if not determined, while potions is far from his strongest subject it’s one he’s passionate about and can almost constantly be found with his head in a potions book or practicing potions that will inevitably blow up in his face. Still, his lack of success doesn’t stop him from doggedly trying to perfect them.
When he’s not studying potions or badgering his muggle born friends with questions about muggle life Matt can usually be found happily dueling other students, finding it all great fun, regardless of if he wins or looses (though he is better at it than he likes to admit).
His treasured pet, a brown owl named Robin was the last gift he received from his very dear late grandmother (from whom he got his passion for potion making but not the talent to go with it unfortunately). He dotes on the bird, keeping her in the dorm rather than the owlery, often to the consternation of his dorm-mates.
